Dr. Alex Manguikian joined Fairfax Eye Associates in 2013, carrying on the legacy of his father, Dr. Dertad Manguikian, who founded the practice in 1975 and dedicated his career to restoring and preserving vision in the Northern Virginia community.

Dr. Manguikian earned his BA from the University of Virginia, PhD in Biochemistry from VCU, and MD from George Washington University. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Flaum Eye Institute. He specializes in advanced cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and eyelid plastic surgery.

A Family Tradition of Eye Care

Fairfax Eye Associates was founded in 1975 by Dr. Dertad Manguikian, a pioneer in modern cataract surgery in Northern Virginia. Over nearly five decades, the practice has served thousands of families. Dr. Dertad Manguikian passed away in November 2023. His son, Dr. Alex Manguikian, proudly continues his father's mission.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) who can diagnose and treat all eye diseases, perform surgery, and prescribe medications. Dr. Manguikian is a board-certified ophthalmologist.

Cataract surgery typically takes 15–20 minutes per eye. You'll be at our facility for about 2–3 hours total including preparation and recovery monitoring.

Yes. Medicare covers standard cataract surgery. Premium lens upgrades such as multifocal or toric IOLs may have additional out-of-pocket costs.

We recommend annual comprehensive eye exams for adults over 40, and more frequently if you have diabetes, glaucoma, or a family history of eye disease.

Yes. Dr. Manguikian offers BOTOX for both cosmetic and functional purposes, including treatment of eyelid spasms.
